So it’s been a little while, huh? A few people have reminded that I have not blogged in some time, which struck me as odd because much has happened that requires some attention.
1. Charlie Wilson’s War was damn good. One of Hanks’ finest performance, much like his role in Catch Me if You Can. See it. It’s good. Piognant.
2. I’m trying to cut back on smoking. So far, the results: eh. I don’t think I’m going to last long on this, but at least, like millions of others, I can say I tried.
3. We have booked the release party for RAGAD #6, entitled ‘What We Thought We Knew,’ penned nimbly by Chicago author of the novel Lucky ManBen Tanzer. The party is going to be on April 26th, 7 PM, The Book Cellar, Chicago. Performances by Tanzer, Jason Jordan, who will be coming all the way from Pittsburgh, Amy Guth, who I’ll mention later on, and Jill Summers. I will be reading too. It’s right after my birthday as well, so come out and hear some fucking awesome writers and then buy me a drink…
4. Amy Guth: she rocks. She’s hosting an event in Chicago this summer called Pilcrow Litfest. An indie-lit convention of sorts, with panels and discussions and workshops and readings. Some of the other peeps who will be attending are Jonathan Messinger, Pete Coco, and many others. And who else? Who? Oh, that’s right. Me. Amy asked me to sit on a panel and I was quite thrilled indeed. The fest is May 22-25. Should be good. The Guth–which I am thinking of calling her from now on–also invited me to read at The Fixx Reading Series in June. I accepted. I am grateful. She is lovely. I am tired of tooting my own horn. You’re probably tired of hearing it too.
5. Thanks to all of you who check this blog regularly, or not even that, who just happen to find it and read it. Who read my stories and perhaps like them perhaps not, who take them to heart or who cast them aside. Thanks to anyone who knows who the hell I am. You are the reason I can have a blog such as this.
Links mentioned in this blog:
1. Really? Tom Hanks? I want to see There Will Be Blood and The Orphanage. But, seriously. Tom Hanks? Hmm.
2. “Quitting smoking is easy. I’ve done it thousands of times.” —Mark Twain
3. I will be there! . . . unless I won’t be there.
4. Amy Guth? That girl I email with all the time who may or may not be real in the flesh? I suppose I should come then and poke her with my finger to make sure she’s real.
5. Your welcome! It’s my pleasure.
I love reading your blog. It’s my one remaining, though peripheral, link to the outside world of writing and all things literary. Would you believe that we randomly found each other on MySpace (of all places!) over two years ago and you are still the only literary guy I keep in contact with? RAGAD did more than just entertain the masses, it brought people together…
